Deltoid Exercise: Lateral Raise

Dumbbell Upright Row Muscles Used

Instructions

  • Hold your trunk tight and keep your back straight
  • Bend your arms slightly
  • Lift straight up - Not backwards
  • Raise the dumbbell so it is level with (or slightly above) your shoulders
  • Lower the dumbbell so it is resting by your side
  • All movement should be generated by your deltoids, do not swing your body to assist the action

  2. Hi Bill, if you goal is mass then its as much weight as you can handle for as many reps as you can handle.
    Would aim for a heavy weight and about 4-5 reps.

  5. Hi Laura,
    Rest between sets is completely your prerogative.
    Usually you would look to wait about 1 minute, however depending on how easy or hard your last set was you should adapt the rest period to suit.
